current obsessions vol. 4
Welcome to Volume 4 of “current obsessions.” If you missed previous editions, you can find vol 1. here, vol 2. here, and vol. 3 here.
This is a weekly (ish) series, inspired by other women who I regularly turn to for recommendations and inspiration. My hope is that this provides inspiration to you, too! And a fun way for me to regularly share in addition to my longer essays.
This week, mostly some favorite clothes finds that I have been wearing over and over again, as well as a few other grab-bag items! Enjoy!
1: The Search for the perfect romper: All summer long I have been obsessed with the look of a shorts romper. I have tried a couple different styles including this one from splendid, and I think I’ve zoned in on wanting one with a collar for a more military look. The ultimate inspiration is this one from Frank & Eileen, but it’s outside the price range I want to spend right now. For now, I’ve been wearing this Mango one (in the white) like crazy. This is satisfying my desire without breaking the bank. I’m hoping this one from J.Crew will go on sale (omg, actually is 30% off right now!), or this Madewell one will be restocked in my size!
2: Mitzi Lamps - Instagram ads do it again. I have been searching for a couple table lamps for different spots in our house and everything (and I meant EVERYTHING) I have liked has been a minimum of $800, and I just cannot buy 3 lamps at that price point right now. So, when I stumbled upon Mitzi, I was very intrigued. Interesting, unique designs, range of styles and a very reasonable price point. I have this one coming to our house for a side table in our living room, and am considering this one for the table in our entryway.
3: J.Crew Pre-Fall Collection - I am a little late on this now, but the J.Crew pre-fall collection is worth a look. They are really coming back with unique pieces that match up with their classic style. Check out my favorites here. They also have a new collection of workwear that is worth checking out if you are getting prepared to go back into the office!
4: Ribbed Tank - On the subject of J.Crew, this tank is just AWESOME. I bought it when I needed a clean skirt for dinner and had spilled something on the shirt I was wearing during the day. I was in a major rush and grabbed a couple white tops and went with the first one that fit. I have been so pleasantly surprised that this top is just incredible. I’ve worn it with high-waisted pants, with a linen skirt…I know I will wear it with jeans in the fall. The fit is just right, the ribbing is super flattering, and the length is perfect — you can tuck it in or tuck it under just a teensy bit so it sits flush with high-waisted items. I like this as a fun way to play around with and have some flexibility with a look. Two times I wore it in one week below!
5: Sarah Flint Natalie Flats - I am working with Sarah Flint as a Brand Ambassador, and as a part of the program, I was able to select a pair of shoes to try out. To say I am obsessed with the Natalie Slingbacks is an understatement. They are such a beautiful shoe, so incredibly and carefully crafted and so comfortable! I love heels and statement shoes, but there is something about a beautiful flat that is so, so worth the investment - you will wear them so many different ways and they will never go out of style! You can use my code SARAHFLINT-BACHRISTINAT or shop via this link for $50 off your first pair!
6: Allison Bornstein on Instagram & TikTok - I have followed Allison for a long time but recently got super into her account again. She is putting truly incredible style content out there that is so accessible and useful. Also, her ethos of “feel good, look good,” and “Style is Wellness” is just, YES. I have talked many times about the connection between how I’m feeling and what I’m wearing — sometimes all I need to feel better is to put on an outfit I love. I am obsessed with the 3 Word method, and starting to think about my own 3 words. I will report back!
7: Every Summer After by Carley Fortune - I really loved this book so much, such a fun read! This is the type of book I am happy to read over and over again. It is like a warm huge. I’m a sucker for the we fell in love when we were young and then were separated for a to-be-discovered reason, only to be reunited with lots of feelings to unpack trope. Gets me every time! I tore through this one and it would make a great beach or vacation read!!
8: Bath Bombs - I got these fizzy bath bombs with toys inside them on a whim on Prime Day, and my children are fully obsessed. I now need to add a new line item to my monthly budget that includes these bath bombs because they may not take a bath without them again. However - they are really fun and make them SO HAPPY. Also, unlike some of the other
