current obsessions vol. 3
Welcome to Volume 3 of “current obsessions.” If you missed previous editions, you can find vol 1. here and vol 2. here.
This is a weekly (ish) series, inspired by other women who I regularly turn to for recommendations and inspiration. My hope is that this provides inspiration to you, too! And a fun way for me to regularly share in addition to my longer essays.
This week I’m talking about running and other exercise-adjacent items, some favorite kids things getting us through summer, a book and a dress!
Peloton Outdoor Runs - I mentioned on instagram that I have been getting back into a running routine. For most of the past year, with the exception of really foul winter days, I was running 3-4 times a week. Not training for anything, not really with a particular goal in mind, but I was feeling great. I like to run, I like how it helps me release stress, I like how I feel after, and my body just feels its best when I am running several times a week. I stopped over the past month as the weather got hotter, but I am trying to get back into it. My husband and I were usually doing one of those runs together and it was a fun way to be together during the week (we call them our morning dates), so I definitely want to bring that back. When I do run by myself, I love listening to outdoor runs on the peloton mobile app. There are so many choices, and they guarantee a great soundtrack. I usually listen to books while I run, but sometimes it’s tough to push my pace without tunes. So, my go-to move is to do a quick 20 or 30 minute class to push myself and get off to a strong start, and then I switch to my audiobook for the second half of the run. If you are starting a running routine, or more into walking, they also have a great assortment of classes for all different paces and level!
Sweaty Betty Power 6” Bike - On the topic of running, I found a pair of bike-style running shorts that I am obsessed with. Most of the time, I run in Nike running tights, but it has been pretty hot for that recently. I am absolutely obsessed with these. I have tried so many different pairs of running shorts and have never found any that don’t bother me in some way when I run. Either they are too tight in the thighs, too loose in the waist, too low cut, or missing a secure place to store a phone so it won’t bounce around or (worse!) pull the shorts down. These stay put, have a pocket on the leg or in the back that fits my phone and keeps it perfectly still, are a great length and great rise. I’m truly obsessed. The camo print style is on sale!
Walking Treadmill - I got a walking desk this winter and have used it everyday since I unboxed it. If you know me, there is 0% chance that I haven’t waxed poetic to you about my walking pad. I will admit that in the nice weather my usage is slightly down because I have been making a huge effort to get outside for walks during the week week. But, this winter it was a game changer, and I have been loving to use it for about 30-45 minutes at either the beginning or the end of the day when I’m getting caught up on email. I’ll also use it on the weekends while my kids nap. It’s a great way to start my day, I feel better not just sitting in my desk all day long and it feels like some healthy multi-tasking! If you have been thinking about a purchase like this, I cannot recommend it enough. There is nothing quite like the high of online shopping while also getting your steps in.
Outdoor Voices Everyday Short Sleeve - Workout/exercise adjacent is this outdoor voices cropped tee that I have been wearing multiple times a week. I am loving the look of a boxy, slightly-cropped T, and this fits the bill. I have been wearing it with leggings, with my denim shorts, and with any high-waisted pants. I’m excited to wear out to dinner sometime soon with a pair of black trousers that my sister found for me at Express, with a cool belt and a fun necklace!
Mini Bento Lunch Boxes - I have a few kid-related things to share this week. The first are these bento boxes. Most days in the summertime, my kids eat lunch picnic-style at the park. For the first few week of summer, our nanny packed my son’s lunch in the container he uses for snack during the school year, and apparently my daughter would just glare at him and give sass that she had to eat out of a meager tupperware container. We decided to get her a lunchbox of her own, and because I’m no fool, I knew they needed to be matching. I couldn’t find the same stainless steel one that he has, but I found these very cute bento-box style ones and they have been a huge hit. Easy for little hands to open and close, stainless steel, aesthetically pleasing and they have a tight seal. They also come with stickers, so my son thought I was the coolest person in the world when I showed them to him!
Weezie Kids Towel Cover Ups - Weezie towels have been on my radar for awhile — (side note: I hope this is the year I finally transition all our bath towels in our house to Weezie ones.) A friend gifted a bath sat to my daughter when she was born and the baby towel + wash cloths are one of our most used baby items. The whole collection they have for kids is great. The standout for us is the kids cover up. My kiddos are both sensitive to chlorine and I like to get them out of their bathing suits ASAP after they are out of the pool. But, changing clothes fully and putting a whole outfit on is a guaranteed battle. Enter, the Weezie towel cover up. They can put it on right when they get out of the pool, dry off and warm up while wearing it, then I can take the bathing suit off quickly and they can keep the towel on for lunch or snacks or dinner and wear it through the car ride home. Then we just slip it off for a quick bath, or, if I’m being really honest, a quick hose-off in the yard. They dry quickly when hung up on hooks, and wash great. Bonus points for the fact that they are ridiculously adorable - they have gotten compliments on them every time they’ve worn them. Considering one for myself, tbh!
In A New York Minute - I am late to finally reading (listening) to this book - it came out earlier in the year to a lot of buzz, but I just finished it and LOVED it. I would highly recommend for a read or a listen. I was squeezing in as many minutes as I possibly could the past week to listen at every chance I could find!
Hill House Laura Shirt Dress - I got this dress from the most recent Hill House collection. It was delivered while I was away on vacation, so it took a long time before I was able to wear it, but now I am officially obsessed. It’s the perfect fabric for super hot summer days when you can’t figure out anything that is weather-appropriate, the silhouette is super flattering, and I love the pinstripe purple stripe — unexpected but also easy to wear. I’m pretty intrigued by the black now…
Next week I am taking a break from obsessions because I’m traveling for the weekend with family, so I’ll be back in 2 weeks. Thanks for reading! If this was forwarded to you, or if this if your first time here, you can subscribe for free below!
