I’m going to try a new thing here where I start a little series documenting some of my favorite things. I’m hoping this might help keep me accountable for writing more regularly since the other pieces sometimes take a week or two to finish since I am eking out little bits of time here and there to put them together! But, I still have lots of thoughts bouncing around in my head (and in the screenshots album of my phone). And open tabs. Sooo many open tabs.
I love reading and hearing about other people’s favorite things- I’ve always loved to read about other people’s morning routines or beauty rituals (a la Into the Gloss) and I’ve been so inspired by so many women who do edits/round-ups (@geethanksjustboughtit, @thenatnote, @things.i.bought.and.liked, @emilylucilesather) when I thought about starting writing this newsletter, so I’m trying this out for myself and see how it goes.
My tentative plan is to create lists for Mondays, but since this is the Monday after a long weekend (also after I was on a week-long vacation), I’ll start today (hopefully not creating a prediction of what is to come for this series by starting it a day late, ha! [Edit: since coming back to work after a week + off extra sucks, it’s coming out Wednesday morning. #thatslife]
Without further ado, my current obsessions, volume one:
Regular donations to Moms Demand Action - There has barely been any time to process any of the acts of violence, particularly from guns, over the past few months (past year, actually), not to mention what happened in Illinois yesterday. It is crazy and frustrating and depressing that life continues to go on. But I get a lot of great news and information about what to do from the Moms Demand Action Group. You can donate to them, and you can get news and information about how to get involved or use your time to advocate for greater gun control regulation.
Snail essence - this serum was discovered via @Courtneygrow (I know many others have waxed poetic about it!!) and the original hype was from the face masks that give a hyper-dose of the mucin. Well, the masks are all sold out, so I went for the Power Essence and I’m pretty obsessed. I like to have something on my face underneath moisturizer and sunscreen, and also under makeup, and this is so dew-inducing. I ran out of my Vitamin C serum this past week so I was happy to have this to step in. And even when I have the serum, it’s nice to have something to apply later on in the day! Also works great on other parts of your body!! Plus, the price is right. I’m officially a convert.
Ilia Liquid Powder Eyeshadow - I am obsessed with this eyeshadow in the summertime. I used it for the first time last summer, and now that I have a little tan and am back on my daily sunless tanner summer routine, this is the perfect shade! It goes on so easily, and just with my fingers (good because fewer things needed, and also b/c it’s unclear when I last washed my makeup brushes!)
Amazon Hoops - Love this lightweight, super simple pair of gold hoops. They are a perfect size, and look great with a sleek pony or with your hair down. I can’t stop wearing them!
Sleeper Rumba Linen Set - I posted about this set on my Instagram earlier this week. I bought it in the spring, after seeing the girls at Le Weekend model it. After buying I initially had a little bit of buyers remorse, because I worried I wouldn’t wear the full set that much, but, I have found myself wearing it a lot! Especially as separates! I love the top with a simple pair of shorts for a pool or beach coverup, and I’ve been wearing the pants constantly. I can’t wait to wear the set together this fall with fun shoes to a party!
DnuD Bikini top & bottom- I discovered this swim brand at a shop in my town and it’s amazing. It is a big splurge, but I wore it to the beach almost every day last week when I was on vacation. It’s a kid-friendly two-piece, and that is worth a lot to me. Also, I should mention, that I am not someone who has a ton of bathing suits - I usually add one or two to my collection per year, so this was my splurge addition! Side note: shopping in person for a bathing suit is 10000x better than ordering a million online. If you can find a local shop that has a selection I would highly recommend it. I tried on several styles from the new-to-me brand Paula, and I am also obsessed - consider if you are looking for a classic one-piece! Eden Pond is a gem if you are local!
The Coast Brand Cover Up- Another discovery via my local swimwear shop, that I also then started to see all over Instagram! I had this realization at the beginning of this summer that I always tend to spend a lot on “special occasion” things in summertime, because it’s so fun to be able to dress up, even if the occasion is just eating dinner outside at home. But, I also spend a huge part of my summer going (shlepping) to and from the pool, or eating dinner out after a day at the beach. It’s nice to have some nice coverups/outfits that you wear for those types of casual daytime events. This brand has so many beautiful pieces to choose from - I love this, this and this!
Lessons In Chemistry - I read this book while on vacation and I just loved it so so so much. It is written about a woman in the 1950s, but (sadly), so much of what she is struggling with and up against is relevant today. Honestly, at first, as I was reading it at the same time the Supreme Court solidified the decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, it was tough to read, but as I went on I completely fell in love with the book and I highly recommend!
Hill House Home Daphne Dress - My latest Hill House home piece and I just love it so much. One of the most flattering dresses I own!
