Entering: Sale Season

There are a lot of sales right now! Honestly, there are always a lot of sales! And, we’re heading into sale season with Black Friday extending into cyber week & cyber month.

This can mean a lot of pressure to buy, buy, buy. When you are online, it can quickly feel like everyone around you is constantly purchasing new things - for your house, closet, kids, you name the category - there is someone telling you you need it, or a newer, better version of something you already have.

And so, a reminder: just because something is on sale doesn’t mean you need it. Also, just because you bought something on sale, doesn't mean you're "saving money." (I remind myself of this regularly!) Just because someone on the internet says you “need” something, or they “can’t live without” something doesn’t mean it’s true. Remember that social media is not reality. Many social media accounts are businesses, and they are selling things to you - just like an ad or commercial might. I love the (mostly) women I follow on Instagram and regularly purchase and discover new amazing products from them, but I also am eyes wide open to the fact that they are running a business.

I realize the irony of this as I am regularly sharing things I have bought, am wearing and love on the internet. And while I do share a lot of links, I also try to balance it by providing a lot of inspiration and encouragement to shop your closet first! As Allison Bornstein would say - “you don’t need more stuff, you need more ideas!”

As I’ve shared before, I make a quarterly wishlist, and try to shop from that- it's a helpful way to prioritize and also avoid impulse purchases that I will go on to regret! Since I've started doing this it has helped me cut down on impulse buys TREMENDOUSLY!

Phew, okay, disclaimers aside, if you are able to create a wish list, and shop with intent, sales can be a great opportunity to get a lot of bang for your buck, and grab a specific piece you’ve been eyeing at a great discount, or address a gap in your closet.

So, I thought it would be fun to feature a few of the big sales happening right now, and highlight some of the things that have caught my eye as I’ve been “window shopping.”

The Big Sales:

SSENSE : 25% off most styles starting today. I am most excited about SKIMS, The Boyfriend Tees specifically. I have a long sleeve and am going to get a tee shirt. A tip: get the SSENSE App, the website is a little clunky.
