Due in approx 10 days with our third and love this list! To delve more deeply into the advice topic, do NOT follow/give your time or eyeballs to anything/anyone that makes you feel less than. It was the hardest part of my first postpartum experience and the best thing (of seriously allllll the things) I ever did, was the hour I took one overnight nursing session was unfollowing a bunch of mom/breastfeeding/parenting accounts.
OMG yes, I could not agree more. The absolute last thing you need every (and especially in the earliest of postpartum days) is being exposed to anything that makes you feel bad.
I’m not a mum (just curious), but this advice was really good for taking care of yourself in general - particularly to accept the nights you don’t get sleep and remember nothing lasts forever, and just relaxing. About everything. Oh and getting out of the house!
You said something that was such an unlock for me: "up until recently I had two kids and a baby." I have been struggling a lot more this year with my three now that I have two kids and a toddler. But DUH, that toddler is not a baby - she is a person with opinions, and demands, and the wherewithal to be VOCAL about it. No wonder!
Ugh, smell your baby as much as you can - if that isn't the truth. Part of me mourns the fact that I'm officially done with the baby years, but as my oldest has entered elementary I have been heartened to see the different kind of sweetness and fun that brings.
Seriously! I'm happy to hear this resonated with you. It's such a big transition going from baby to toddler. And, when you have multiple kids it impacts everyone! There is so much magic about having a baby, and I am not totally over the fact that we are probably done with three (ha, can you tell!), but you're right that there is so much more magic and fun to come as kids get older! I'm soaking up every moment, but also can't wait to get the first glimpses into what Willa's voice sounds like, and the funny things she's going to say, and her opinions and personality!! SUCH A TRIP!!! thanks for reading, Katie!
This was lovely! Thanks for sharing, clothing and personally. Yes to embracing the fun that comes along with all the challenges - there’s so much joy in this phase!
Love love this!! Did a weekend getaway with our four month old and the best (though most exhausting) part was all of the contact naps on the plane and early mornings!!!!
I LOVED reading your sweet reflections on motherhood! I am not planning to have a child for a few more years, but some of the challenges (sleepless nights, tighter finances, responsibility of a little human) are already something that make me nervous. So lovely to ready a post that balances the struggle with some moments of joy. Wishing you and your family loads of happiness for this chapter!
Hi! Just wanted to say I'm a new first time mom (baby is 3 weeks old!), and have really enjoyed reading your newsletter while I was pregnant to get an idea of what to expect after delivery, and now postpartum for inspo and grounding. Thank you!!
