Too Many Open Tabs (12): Everything is on sale right now
Maybe even something you really want...Just don't forget to enjoy your weekend
We’re right smack dab at the weekend that kicks off summer. While we plan our weekend BBQs, beach trips, and pool-side outfits (I know we’re all thinking about it!!), stores and brands are planning on how to best entice you to spend with them this weekend, by offering a promotion or sale of some kind.
This year especially, Memorial Day Weekend has crept up very quickly. My son is finishing up Kindergarten, so this is our first year really operating on a true school-year schedule. The volume of end-of-year activities, celebrations, and milestones that are scheduled between the end of Spring Break (in mid-April) and the beginning of June (when school ends), makes my head spin. We got a lot goin’ on! In a good way! We’ve been moving a mile a minute is most parts of life. So, in many ways, this long weekend will be a nice breath before we gear up for the last 2 weeks of school, and then hurtle into summer where every week will be a little different and all structure will be tossed out the door.
Lucky for us, the weather is (do I even say it, or will writing it out completely jinx me?) NICE. Like, NICE NICE. Like, maybe the nicest Memorial Day Weekend forecast I can remember in years (knock on wood and fingers crossed and all that).
So, I’ve I’ve got late spring and summer on the brain. I’m ecstatic to see the sun, spend time outside, apply sunscreen to tiny faces and arms and legs, wrestle hats onto everyone, go for after-dinner bike rides every night, sit on the grass, have picnics, sip cold glasses of wine and beer, trek to our town pond, grill out, eat fresh local vegetables, pick strawberries, mix margaritas and have ice cream for dinner.
This weekend, we are laying pretty low - sticking around to hit up opening weekend at our town pond, visiting friends on Sunday, and hopefully having a barbeque of some kind on Monday. I was traveling for work this week - in a whirlwind of working sessions with clients, and in-person time with my team - it was great, but I am also exhausted, so very much looking forward to soaking up time with family and friends.
And of course, I plan to do at least a little shopping. Now that the weather is actually warm, and the sun is shining, I’m feeling VERY excited to get dressed again. (Truly knocks me over every year - how much the regular appearance of the sun and weather that doesn’t require a jacket changes my outlook on life!) I think my seasonal wishlist has shaped up quite nicely, and I’m ready to check a few things off my list. And, while things are on promotion is always a good time to do so.
But, when things go on mega sale, it can also be very distracting. I sometimes find myself in a constant search through sales - convinced that if I just change one filter, load the next page, scroll through the discounted items just one more time - I’ll find that perfect piece at a price I love, and it will make the wardrobe of my dreams come to fruition.
What this actually is - is a lot of pressure to buy, buy, buy. When you are online, it can quickly feel like everyone around you is constantly purchasing new things - for your house, closet, kids, you name the category - there is someone telling you you need it, or a newer, better version of something you already have.
And so, a reminder: just because something is on sale doesn’t mean you need it. Also, just because you bought something on sale, doesn't mean you're "saving money." I’m here to remind myself, and you, that there is no one piece that will make your wardrobe perfect. If you don’t want and need something that’s on sale you shouldn’t buy it. And the activity that will leave you feelin like absolute crap at the end of the weekend is spending the whole time glued to your phone or computer searching for a deal.
Remember - a sale is just a sale. There will be another one. There will, in fact, be many more (basically every long weekend/holiday this summer will bring another major promotion of some kind). Buying something that you love, that you want, that you will actually use or wear, that happens to be discounted, is AMAZING. Buying just to buy, just because something is on sale, or buying outside your budget is not going to make you feel good. Shop smartly this sale weekend (and all sale weekends) by having a shopping list ahead of time - whether it’s for an occasion, or for a piece you want to add to your closet, or a specific item you’re hoping becomes available at a discount. If you don’t want or need anything - DON’T OPEN THE EMAILS!!!
If you are shopping (WITH A LIST!!!), here are some of the sales that I’ve taken a browse through, and then a roundup of pieces by category, so you can look at exactly what you might be shopping for! Browse the full round-up here.

If you’re shopping for…
Dresses
If you love mini-lenth, I love this A-Line linen mini, as well as this one from J.Crew (I ordered this to try in blue), and dying over how cute this is! Also obsessed with this white number!
If you’re looking for something longer, I love this (bump-friendly!). This is also perfect for throw on and go for this summer. This too. And this is fab.
If you’re shopping for an occasion, I love this, also available in black. This is one of the cutest cocktail options I’ve seen in awhile. Few sizes left, but this is perfect for a summer wedding. This too. Great if you want all black. I cannot get enough green, and I love that this dress can be an all-year-round kind of style!
Another fabulous event dress option here.
Bags
Perfect elegant shoulder bag. Cutest summer tote you can take to the pool, beach, you name it!
How wonderful is this little raffia bucket bag?
Tops
I love this cropped linen top - I have it from last year, and can’t wait to wear it with shorts, white jeans, and skirts! I love this tank too - wear with jeans, shorts, skirts, gauzy pants, under a blazer!
Can never have too many striped tops! This is great for the beach!
Matching Sets
A cute striped tank and matching shorts.
Sweaters
I love to have a couple cotton sweaters for when its warmer, but still can get chilly at night. I’ve have one of these from J.Crew for years.
Pants
I live in linen pants in the summer-time. I like this pair for work, and these too. If you prefer a gauze (or linen blend), these look really nice.
These are great jeans, in a nice wash for the warmer weather. And these are my go-tos.
Shorts
These are so nice - imaging with a white tee shirt, rib-knit tank, or a crisp button-down. I love this silk pair also.
These colorful ones would be fun with a simple white tee shirt.
Sandals
These are perfect for all your summer events. These too.
I ordered these to try to have a pair of sandals that just slip right on. Very into the snake-embossed leather.
Strappy sandals that you can wear everyday or dress up are such a summer staple. I love these, these, these, and this pair.
Bathing Suits
