In my house, we love to take the tune of a song that we all know and love and make up our own lyrics to it. The lyrics can be whatever — something we’re asking the kids to do, a song that narrates what time it is, or just a little saying that we sing to each other. Right now, we are doing a lot of “Willa, doot doot doot doot doot doo, oh Baby Willa, you are my baby Willa, and you got me lovin’ you” sung to the tune of “Sugar Sugar” by the Archies. We do this so much, that this weekend I noticed my son was doing it too - he made up his own lyrics to “Starships,” a song that we listen to A LOT in our house when we were getting in the car to drive into Boston. I can’t even remember the lyrics he made up now, but next time he does it I will be paying close attention to be sure I can remember.
Anyways, that’s the first thing that I was thinking about when I looked at pieces that I screen-shotted/saved/pinned this past week. You know, the song, “Yakety yak (don't talk back)” Except…all the things that I have been eyeing are black, soo…yeah, welcome to inside my head!
There is no denying that black is a major trend this fall. I plan to begin to dive into Fall trends - what I’m seeing, what I’m excited about, how I’m planning to incorporate into my own wardrobe starting this week, and there are a lot of things I’m excited about (and some I’m scratching my head over, honestly), but black is definitely something that I love to see everywhere. Of course, black is timeless, and people always wear black in their wardrobes - often times head to toe. But, it is feeling really fresh this season, and I have felt myself drawn more than usual to black pieces and been excited by how fresh and fun the pieces feel. I wore a great black dress (from Hill House, in case you’re wondering) to a wedding in August, and I’m planning to re-wear the dress with a Blazer over my shoulders to a cocktail party we have in a couple weeks!
Puzzle Gown - If you have a special event coming up this fall or winter that you are shopping for, I would be considering a black dress. I find that dark, solid colors get so much runway in my closet, especially those for dressy events. They can be styled so many different ways! I love the uniqueness of the neckline of this dress.
La Ligne Knit Pant and Cardigan - I am a well-documented La Ligne fan - I am building a small collection of their sweaters, and hope to add at least another piece or two to my wardrobe this fall/winter. I especially love this knit set! Feels like a set worth investing in (I still have a hard time swallowing extremely expensive sweatshirts and sweatpants!), because you can wear it so many ways - in both casual and dressy ways. Plus, I really love a knit pant - wear on the weekends, to work, etc. The length and collar of the cardigan make it particularly appealing!
Tory Burch Loafers - Loafers are always a fall staple, and we’re seeing them everywhere this season. I actually have this pair in a green leather, from a few years ago - not sure if they make them anymore, but I love the black. Something about the horsehead gold chain that makes them so special! Also, wildly comfortable!
Black Belt - Belts elevate an outfit, and can add a lot of punch to a simple look of jeans and a tee. I love the shape of this buckle; under $50!
Paz Jumpsuit - I see a black jumpsuit as a wardrobe staple. Put a blazer over it and it works for almost any evening event - whether for work or pleasure, add some fun earrings and bracelets and a little heel and wear it to a wedding or cocktail party. So versatile. I love the neckline and sleeves on this one!
Off-Shoulder Shirt - Definitely have an internal crisis over the fact that I’m lusting over something from Abercrombie, more than 20 years after I spent most of my time convincing my mom to just let me go into A&F when we were at the mall, but here we are. What a fun, budget-friendly going-out top. Picturing wearing it with a little black heel, wide-leg black trousers, the belt and fun earrings for a party we have next month!
