Coming at you this week with transitional pieces that you can wear now and well into fall when the weather cools down! While I have been browsing (as I do) and thinking about new things, I hope this also inspires you to think about new ways to wear things you already own!!!
This year especially, I am challenging myself to focus more on clothes that are season-less, or, at least, not just for a single season. Not everything is going to fall into that category, obviously, but I want to focus on pieces that I can I add to my closet that I will wear throughout the year. I’m doing this because I want to get more mileage out of the pieces that I have, make sure I’m adding things that I actually want, need, and will wear (and not just want to wear one time), and create room in my budget for some more significant investments as I’ll be purchasing fewer pieces.
I’m not going after a capsule wardrobe. At least not in the sense of wanting to have an entire closet of pieces that all go together. But, I am continuing to take a thoughtful approach to dressing where everything feels wearable, and I will be excited to re-wear pieces over and over again and in a variety of different ways. It doesn’t mean I won’t try some fast-er fashion pieces, and I’ll probably try out a trend or two, and I will definitely have special occasion pieces that are for special events, but, hopefully you get what I mean!
Moving on to what I wanted to share today: Six pieces you can wear now, and continue to wear throughout fall and into winter, and some ideas on how to style them while it’s hot and also when it gets cooler - whether you are pulling these pieces out from your own closet, or looking to close gaps that you’ve identified in your own wardrobe.
Slip Dress : I love dresses like this Reformation Dress - wear when its warm with just a simple pair of strappy sandals and fun jewelry. Transition into early September with a pair of ballet flats and a crewneck sweater over your shoulder, and even further into the fall with an oversized denim jacket, or a big chunky sweater, or even a belted blazer and boots. Personally, I have and love this J.Crew dress, and plan to wear it regularly throughout the next few months!
Wide-Leg, Elastic Waist Pants : I’ve seen many of my favorite stylish ladies on instagram wearing these pants. They remind me of my beloved Gap PJs pants that I have been wearing so much. Wear them now with a fitted cotton tank or slinky silk cami. Add a crisp white button down when it starts to get a little cooler, and swap in a navy sweater when the weather really starts to change. When the weather gets warm again, wear them over your bathing suit! Great look for less option here, and I also love this pair, especially in a color that will be on-trend this fall.
Ecru Jeans : I haven’t been wearing jeans much lately as I am not quite back in my normal size pants, and haven’t figured out what I might buy for fall while I’m still in between sizes, but I have wished for a pair of jeans like this multiple times this summer. Wear all summer long, and then pair with long sleeve knit polos or any sweater that you love when the weather cools down!
Maxi Skirt : I saw Nan Philip wearing the Hill House Home Krista Skirt and fell in love. A maxi skirt is a great pieces to wear through multiple seasons - you can dress it up or down right now - with a simple tank, or a fancier bustier top (as styled by the model in the collage), and add layers to it as the weather warms up. I particularly love the idea of it with a super cosy festive sweater this holiday season! This is a piece that is definitely on my personal wishlist!
Button Up Mini Dress : A dress like this is so versatile and I love this one in the color of the season! Wear it now with strappy sandals and push up the sleeves. As it starts to get a little chilly, pair with a loafer and socks, and a jacket. And add tights when it really cools down! I love this all black option from Sezane.
Full Zip Sweatshirt : This Varley Zip Sweatshirt is a perfect layering piece to put on just for chilly mornings and evenings right now, and then incorporate into daytime looks as a full layer! I don’t have any full Zip sweatshirts in my closet right now, but I know I want to add one this season and this is towards the top of my list!!
